Classes

⭐ Premium

The Classes module manages time-limited courses and discipleship groups — Alpha, the Marriage Course, a Parenting Course, a new members class, confirmation preparation, or any group that has a defined start and end date and an enrolment list. People can sign up through a public-facing page on your website, and leaders can track attendance session by session.

Classes vs Small Groups

The key difference is duration. Small Groups are ongoing weekly gatherings with no fixed end. Classes have a start date and a finish date — they run for a set number of weeks or months. If something runs indefinitely, use Small Groups. If it has a beginning and an end, use Classes. See Ministries, small groups and classes for a full comparison.

Creating a class

Go to Church Admin → Classes → Add a class. Fill in:

  • Class name — for example Alpha or Introduction to Christianity
  • Description — a short summary shown to people on the public registration page
  • Start date and end date
  • Day and time — when it meets each week
  • Leader — the person responsible for the class, selected from the directory

Save and the class is created. It is now available to show on your website and for people to enrol in.

Showing classes on your website

Add a page to your website and use the shortcode or the Church Admin block to display your classes:

This displays all upcoming classes as a list, each with its name, description, dates, and meeting time, followed by a registration form.

To show a single specific class rather than the full list, add the class ID to the shortcode:

How registration works

The registration process is designed to connect new sign-ups to the directory:

  1. The visitor enters their email address first
  2. If the email is already in the directory and linked to a WordPress account, they are shown a login form — this connects the enrolment to their existing record
  3. If the email is not recognised, they see a short booking form asking for their first name, last name, and email — a new directory record is created for them on submission
  4. Once registered, they appear in the class’s enrolment list in the admin dashboard

This means every class registration either links to an existing directory entry or creates a new one — keeping your directory up to date as people join courses.

Managing enrolments

Go to Church Admin → Classes to see all your classes and their current enrolment lists. From here you can:

  • View everyone enrolled in each class
  • Add people manually from the directory — useful if someone signed up in person or by phone
  • Remove people who can no longer attend
  • Edit the class details

Tracking attendance with Sessions

For session-by-session attendance tracking — recording who was present at each individual meeting of a class — use the Sessions module alongside Classes. A class leader can log each session and tick off who attended, building a complete attendance history over the course of the class. See Sessions.

Classes in the app

If you use the Our Church app, classes can be shown in the app menu so logged-in members can see class details and their own enrolment status. This is configured in the app menu settings. See Getting started with the app.
