One of my US friends found that paying for an annual app subscription would incur a $58 charge for the international transfer to the UK. That’s outrageous!
One of the joys of being in the UK is that international travel is easy and cheap (well except in March 2020, when 25% of the world is in some sort of lockdown) and so we have long had the option of online prepaid card/app accounts that offer free transfers between currencies, usually at the Interbank rates. You top up as needed and can use it anywhere for no fee. They also crucially allow cross border transfers to other users free too!
Revolut is one of those companies and the one I use. If you join I don’t get anything from it, apart from the fact you can more easily pay for a church subscription to the app.
