The Sites and Services module is the foundation for attendance tracking, scheduling, and service prebooking. A Site is a physical venue — the building or location where your church meets. A Service is a gathering that takes place at a site, whether a regular weekly service or a one-off event like a wedding or funeral.
Finding the screen
Go to Church Admin → Sites & Services. You need the Services permission level to access this screen, or be a WordPress administrator. A summary of your sites and services also appears on the Church Admin dashboard module for quick access. See Permissions and roles.
Sites
A Site is a physical venue — your church building, a hired hall, a school, or any other location where your church meets. Most churches will have just one site. If your church meets in multiple locations — different campuses, a church plant, or services at more than one venue — you create a separate site for each.
Each site holds the venue’s name, address, and contact details. The site address is used as the default centre point for the people map if no group coordinates are available, and site details can appear on your website through shortcodes.
Go to Church Admin → Sites & Services → Add site to create your first site.
Services
A Service is a gathering that takes place at a site. Services come in two types:
- Regular services — recurring gatherings on a fixed schedule, for example Sunday Morning at 10:30am every week, or Wednesday Evening at 7:30pm fortnightly. These are the services that appear in the attendance tracking and schedule modules automatically each week.
- Ad hoc services — one-off gatherings such as weddings, funerals, baptisms, or special events. These are added as individual services with a specific date rather than a recurring schedule. See Scheduling ad hoc services.
Go to Church Admin → Sites & Services → Add service to create your services.
Why Sites and Services matter
Services are referenced throughout Church Admin — they are not just a label. Setting them up correctly is a prerequisite for several other features:
- Attendance tracking — attendance figures are recorded against a specific service and date. Without services set up, you can’t record attendance. See Attendance tracking overview.
- Schedule / Rota — the rota is built around services. Each schedule job is assigned to a service, and volunteers are rostered against specific service dates. See Rota / Schedule.
- This week’s attendance — the weekly attendance form pulls in services that have a scheduled rota entry for the week. See This week’s attendance.
- Individual attendance — individual attendance records are linked to a specific service and date.
- Service prebooking — capacity-limited services can have a prebooking form added to your website. See Service prebookings.
- People map — your church site’s address is used as the default map centre when no group coordinates are available.
Recommended setup order
- Add your site or sites
- Add your regular services, assigning each to the correct site
- Set up your schedule jobs so the rota can be populated. See Rota / Schedule.
- Start recording attendance
Multi-site churches
If your church runs multiple sites, create a site record for each venue first, then add the services that run at each site. People in the directory can be linked to a specific site, and the People directory filter lets you view and communicate with people at each site separately. See Address list filtering.
