Recording an Act of Courage

⭐ Premium

Acts are set by individual church members — a personal commitment to take a step of courage in sharing their life, their faith, or Jesus himself with someone they know. This page explains the three types of Act and how members record them.

The three types of Act

Every Act falls into one of three categories, representing a journey of growing boldness in faith-sharing:

Share Life

Taking steps to build genuine relationships with people who don’t yet know the Lord. This might be as simple as inviting a neighbour for coffee, joining a community group, or committing to pray regularly for five people you know.

Share Faith

Taking steps to bring faith into your friendships — sharing your story, offering to pray for someone, or mentioning church naturally as part of your week.

Share Jesus

Taking steps to invite a friend to encounter Jesus directly — whether that’s inviting them to a service, an event, or a conversation about faith.

The idea is that these build on each other. Relationships come first, then faith enters those relationships naturally, then invitations to meet Jesus follow. Nobody needs to jump straight to Share Jesus — the point is to take the next step from wherever you are.

How members record an Act

Members access Acts through the church website or the Our Church App. They need to be logged in with a WordPress account linked to their directory record.

  1. Go to the Acts page on the church website (or open the Acts section in the app)
  2. Choose the type of Act — Share Life, Share Faith, or Share Jesus
  3. Write a short description of the goal they are committing to
  4. Set a target date if they want a reminder
  5. Save — the Act is now recorded privately against their profile

When they follow through, they return to the same page and mark the Act as complete. They can then set a new one.

Recording an Act on behalf of someone

If someone shares a goal in a small group or conversation and wants it noted but doesn’t do it themselves, an admin can record it for them from Church Admin → Acts in the WordPress dashboard. Select the person from the directory, choose the Act type, add a description, and save.

Setting up the Acts page on your website

Members need a page on your website to access Acts. Create a new page, add the Acts shortcode or block (available from Premium version 5.1.47), and publish it. Then add it to your navigation menu or link to it from the app so members can find it easily.

See Showing Church Admin elements on your website for general guidance on setting up member-facing pages, and the Shortcode Generator to get the correct shortcode.
