The Shortcode Generator helps you build Church Admin shortcodes without having to remember parameter names or look up IDs. Select a shortcode from the dropdown, configure the options — which are populated with your actual site data — and the correct shortcode is generated for you to copy and paste.
Finding the generator
Go to Church Admin → Settings → Shortcode generator. A button in the settings section opens the generator in a new tab or popup. The generator is also available at the bottom of this page — but note that the version on your own site is more useful, since its dropdowns are populated with your own data (your member types, categories, groups, services, and so on) rather than example data.
How to use it
- Select a shortcode from the Choose shortcode dropdown
- A description of what the shortcode does appears, along with any options available for that shortcode
- Configure the options — tick checkboxes, select from dropdowns, or enter values as needed
- Click Submit — the completed shortcode appears below
- Copy the shortcode and paste it onto any page in your WordPress editor
Available shortcodes
The generator covers all 27 Church Admin shortcodes:
- Address list — the member directory with filter, map, PDF, and privacy options
- Acts — the evangelistic intentions form for members
- Anniversaries — upcoming wedding anniversaries with options for days ahead, age display, email, and phone
- Birthdays — upcoming birthdays with the same options
- Calendar — the full interactive monthly calendar, with category filter and style options
- Calendar — table style — the calendar in a compact table layout
- Calendar — list style — upcoming events as a chronological list, with days and category filter
- Contact form — the public-facing contact form

- Hello user — displays a personalised welcome message to logged-in visitors

- Logged in — wraps content so it only shows to logged-in visitors
- Mailing list — a simple form for visitors to add themselves to the directory for email communications
- Names — displays a list of names from the directory
- Not logged in — wraps content so it only shows to visitors who are not logged in, with optional login form
- Sermon audio player — an audio player for a single sermon
- Phone list — a list of phone numbers from the directory
- Recent people activity — the recent activity list for pastoral follow-up
- Register — the self-registration form for new households, with options for which fields to show
- Restricts content to certain member types — wraps content visible only to specific member types
- Sermons (new style) — the full sermon archive in the current layout
- Sermons (old style) — the sermon archive in the original layout
- Sessions — the small group session tracking form
- Single sermon — displays one specific sermon selected from your library
- Spiritual gifts — the spiritual gifts questionnaire
- Video embed — embeds a video with correct aspect ratio handling
Using the generator on your own site vs the demo
The demo generator at churchadminplugin.com uses example data — you’ll see placeholder member types, groups, and categories rather than your own. The generator accessed from within your Church Admin settings uses your actual data, so dropdowns show your real member types, your own calendar categories, your services, and so on. Always use the in-dashboard generator when building shortcodes for your site.
Gutenberg blocks
Every shortcode that Church Admin provides is also available as a Gutenberg block — search for Church Admin in the block inserter and select the feature you need. Blocks offer the same options as the shortcodes but configured through the block’s sidebar panel rather than shortcode parameters, which may be easier if you prefer working in the block editor without shortcodes.
