Act Types are the categories that members choose from when setting an Act. Church Admin comes with the three default types — Share Life, Share Faith, and Share Jesus — but you can edit these to use language that fits your church culture.
Finding Act Types
In your WordPress dashboard go to Church Admin → Acts and look for the Act Types option in the Acts menu.
The default Act Types
Out of the box, Church Admin provides three Act Types that follow a natural progression from building relationships through to direct faith-sharing:
| Type | What it means |
|---|---|
| Share Life | Building genuine friendships with people who don’t yet know Jesus — the foundation everything else grows from |
| Share Faith | Bringing faith naturally into existing friendships — sharing a story, offering prayer, mentioning church |
| Share Jesus | Inviting someone to encounter Jesus directly — to a service, an event, or a deeper conversation about faith |
Editing Act Types
If your church uses different language — or runs a specific outreach framework with its own terminology — you can rename or replace the default types to match. A few examples of how churches adapt them:
- A church running God at Work material might rename the types to reflect that course’s language
- A church using Everyday Evangelism or Talking Jesus resources might align the types with those frameworks
- A simpler two-type setup — for example Connect and Invite — works well for churches wanting a lighter touch
To edit a type, click on it in the Act Types list, update the name and description, and save. The updated label will immediately appear to members when they set a new Act.
Adding a new Act Type
To add a type beyond the defaults, click Add Act Type, give it a name and a short description explaining what kind of goal fits that category, and save. Members will see the new type as an option when recording an Act.
Keep descriptions short and encouraging — members read them in the moment of deciding to commit to something, so clarity and warmth matter more than detail.
A note on changing existing types
If you rename an Act Type after members have already recorded Acts against it, their existing Acts will update to show the new name. There is no separate migration step needed — the type label is stored centrally, not copied into each Act record.
It’s worth agreeing on your Act Type names before you launch the feature to your congregation, so members aren’t confused by labels changing after they’ve started using it.
