Church Admin Plugin

  • Keeping maps updated when users change their address

I love having the maps working!

I find the map and directions links particularly useful on the Our Church app when I want to visit someone. They also allow you to show your church location, small groups and address list maps on your website.

If you haven’t got mapping working yet, then there is a tutorial on setting it up here.

Recently I have noticed that when people have moved and updated their address on the app – the map pin hasn’t moved. Same if they did it on the website and didn’t click “Update the map”. So….

On the website  registration page, the map is updated if the user clicks Update or when they have finished filling out the address field.

On the app, a needs geocoding flag is set when someone registers or updates their address.

That will look like this on the Church Admin dashboard…

Clicking “Update mapping now” will sort it out!

If you don’t yet have the app, the maps and directions buttons are one of my favourite features. Add that to that your sermons, service schedules, calendar, push notifications, Bible readings, prayer requests, online giving and a church app licence for a one off $99 or £75 is well worth having. I’ll even help you get it set up if you need the support!

  • Kidswork Checkin & Checkout

    Kidswork Checkin & Checkout

Safeguarding children with checkin and checkout

As churches grow we need safe systems for making sure children are collected by their parents. The latest update (v2.2800) includes a simple paper based system for checking children in and out to Sunday school groups.

The form screenshot above is on the Children tab of Church Admin.
Check which children’s work groups you want, the service and the date of the service (so you can print in advance if you want!). Click on download and a PDF is produced. The first sheet for each group is for the leaders to sign children in and out…

The second and subsequent pages are some slips you can guillotine to hand to parents…

Hope you find it helpful and let me know if there are any refinements that can make it more useful.

  • Small groups pdf

    Small groups

Are vital for any church that is growing past 50 – they provide a great way of people caring for one another, discipleship and even friendship evangelism. The early church met in small groups and gathered the whole church together (Acts 2:42-47). In the Old Testament, Moses was told in no uncertain terms to structure Israel in 10s, 50s, 100s…

I keep trying to simplify church administration! Creating a document that listed our small groups was a time consuming task for us! No more – with 90 mins coding our PDF that used to take a lot of fiddling to fit, is now available at a click of a link on the Groups tab and any page that has the small group list shortcode or Gutenberg block.

You can print them out for those that aren’t tech savvy! The background is a map graphic. You can change the PDF title using the Gutenberg options or title=”new title” in the shortcode. The default is a translation of “Small groups” for your locale.

    Schedule

So the great Schedule/Roster vote was resoundingly… Schedule. I did get a very helpful email proving that Schedule was semantically correct in the US, but in a democracy we sometimes have to live with the “wrong” choice made 😉

    Smartphone ownership is rising fast…

95% of Americans own a cellphone and 77% a smartphone.

If you don’t have the app yet, it’s a worthwhile investment for most age groups in your church – it’s free for your congregation to install on their device and only GB £7.50 / US $10 per month for the church to buy into. It will mean your congregation can catch up with sermon mp3s, your schedule/rota/roster, calendar, groups, classes and even check into services and classes.

Getting a church subscription funds plugin development too!

    Every blessing

  • Improved image upload for directory

The latest version 1.0974 now uses the native WordPress Image Upload functionality for editing people.

  • Recent crashes

Sorry if you have been affected by recent crashes on upgrades and installs.
I’ve not experienced it on any of my sites and test sites, so it was hard to fix. But 1.092 I’m informed is working fine

  • Multi-level leadership structure

    Multi-level leadership structure

Screen Shot 2016-06-27 at 09.50.51Version 0.964 brings a big under the hood change that makes the church admin plugin so much more flexible for growing and larger churches.
You can now have multi level oversight of ministries.

The key area were this will be useful is small group leadership. Once you get more than 5 small groups, groups need coaches and overseers – much like Jethro instructed Moses to structure Israel in Exodus 1:17-22.

So if you want to add small group coaches to your leadership structure, edit that ministry and fill in the “oversight name” text field. You can do that as many times as you like!

Then on the Small Groups menu page, you’ll see your hierarchy of leadership…

If you edit a small group , or add a new one…

You can add people to that leadership level if there is no-one saved as one yet or choose form a drop-down of people with that ministry. Now as many as you like!

The different levels of leadership are also displayed on public facing pages and posts through short codes too.

If you spot any bugs, please point them out on the Support page and do get in touch if you can help with translating the plugin.

I’m going to be writing an iOS app for churches using the plugin, so if you would like to donate towards getting a Mac then please use my donation link!

  • Version 0.900

For today’s release I’ve tidied up the setting page and added the option to not show modules you don’t use.

I have re-coded email sending to a one page form. You can also specify a different smtp server to send email – like gmail. The old settings never worked properly and are no longer used, so please re-add them on the settings page.

  • v0.832

    Today’s update does three things
    1) It adds a most requested feature – classes. Still in infant form but there. What would you like added to that feature to make it better?

    2) There are some language translation fixes

    3) I’ve begun to make email sending multipart so text only email clients can read them too (didn’t know people still had text only email clients, but there you go!). WordPress doesn’t do it well, so it’s taken a while to get it working!

  • Please update to v0.810

Last night, I got an email pointing out a vulnerability in the

    Register/Login

shortcode that allows a malicious person to add some javascript to the address field, which would make the address list pages vulnerable to XSS hacks.

I’ve gone through all the code for the whole plugin, making sure that vulnerability was plugged and not repeated anywhere else. The WordPress security team have also been notified.

Version 0.810 has got rid of the vulnerability. In the unlikely any malicious people have already exploited the vulnerabilty – their address field will look like a bunch of code but not actually do anything bad.

  • New look admin screen

New look admin screenI’ve been finding scrolling down to find the right section of the church admin plugin a bit of a pain and the layout was looking a bit dated, so I have redesigned the layout using more native WordPress admin elements for v0.800. Hope you like it

The follow up funnel section isn’t on a tab at the moment – is anyone using that feature?

  • 0.731 Update

I’ve just updated the Church admin plugin to fix the following bugs…

    1. Service rota/schedule – sticks on first service, drop down menu restored.
    2. Mailchimp sync – there was an issue if you had no groups set up in Mailchimp, now fixed.
    3. Facilities – editing a facility added it as a new one again, noe fixed

Please do keep reporting bugs through the Support forum

To help finance my time working on the plugin – why not upgrade your church website to a smartphone friendly for £250 with hosting and domain name for the first year.
