Units

⭐ Premium

Units are a flexible grouping tool for people in your directory that don’t fit neatly into Small Groups or Classes. Typical uses include prayer triplets, Bible study pairs, pastoral care clusters, elder zones, or any other informal grouping your church uses that has its own membership list but doesn’t need the full structure of a small group or course.

Go to Church Admin → Units. You need the Units permission level to access this screen. See Permissions and roles.

The units list

The screen shows all your units in a table sorted alphabetically by name. Each row shows:

  • Name — the unit name
  • Description — a short description of the unit’s purpose
  • Count — how many people are currently in the unit
  • Edit — opens the unit to update its name, description, or membership
  • Delete — removes the unit after confirmation

Adding a unit

Click Add a unit at the top of the screen. See Adding and editing a unit for the fields available.

Editing a unit

Click Edit next to any unit to update its name, description, or the people assigned to it.

Deleting a unit

Click Delete next to a unit and confirm the prompt. The unit and its membership list are removed. People who were in the unit are not deleted from the directory — they remain as normal directory entries, just no longer associated with that unit.

Units vs Small Groups vs Classes

It’s worth understanding how Units differ from the other grouping options in Church Admin:

  • Small Groups — ongoing weekly gatherings with a meeting location, map pin, and oversight structure. Best for home groups and community groups.
  • Classes — time-limited courses with a start and end date, a session schedule, and a public registration form.
  • Units — lightweight, flexible groupings with just a name, description, and membership list. No meeting schedule, no map, no public registration. Use Units when the overhead of Small Groups or Classes is more than you need.
