Everyone Visible is a brute-force admin tool that overrides every individual’s privacy settings in one go, making the entire directory visible on the member-facing address list. It is a deliberate, irreversible action that should be used with care and only in specific circumstances.
Finding the screen
Go to Church Admin → People → Everyone visible. This screen is only accessible to WordPress site administrators — other user roles cannot see or use it.
What it does
When confirmed, the tool applies the following changes to every person and household in the directory simultaneously:
- Sets every household’s privacy flag to not private
- Sets every individual to show on the address list
- Sets every individual’s contact visibility to show email, mobile, landline, and address
The screen asks for confirmation before making any changes — click Yes, make everyone visible to proceed.
When you might use this
- Initial setup — after importing a CSV or creating records manually, everyone defaults to hidden. Rather than editing each record individually to make them visible, this tool opens the whole directory at once so you can then selectively mark anyone private who needs to be.
- After a data migration — if privacy settings have been lost or reset during a migration from another system, this restores visibility across the board before you refine individual preferences.
- Test or demo sites — quickly populating a visible directory without manually editing each record.
Important warnings
- This overrides individual choices. If any members have deliberately set themselves as private — because they don’t want their contact details visible to other members — this tool will undo that without warning them.
- There is no undo. Once confirmed, every privacy setting is overwritten. There is no way to restore individual preferences automatically — you would need to go back through records manually to reinstate anyone who had chosen to be private.
- GDPR implications. Making someone’s contact details visible to other members without their knowledge or consent may conflict with your data protection obligations. If your congregation has been given the opportunity to set their own privacy preferences, overriding those preferences is a significant step.
