The Global communications settings screen lets you switch whole categories of communication on or off for your entire church in one go. Instead of setting preferences person by person, you choose “Everyone” or “No-one” for each type of message. It’s powerful — and because of that, it needs care.
Use with caution — this overrides individual settings
This is the most important thing to understand about this page: saving it overwrites every individual’s own communication preferences. If you choose “Everyone” for a category, everyone is opted in; if you choose “No-one”, everyone is opted out — regardless of what each person had previously chosen, and there’s no undo. Treat it as a reset switch for the whole church, not a gentle nudge. If you only want to adjust some people, use the People’s Bulk Email settings grid instead, which lets you set preferences individually.
Who can use it, and who it affects
Only full site administrators can change these settings — if you don’t have that level of access, the page tells you so. The settings apply to everyone in your address list who has both an email address and data-protection consent recorded; if no one meets that, the page will let you know there’s no one to update.
The settings
Each option is a simple Everyone or No-one dropdown, grouped by channel.
SMS
- SMS messages — whether the whole church receives SMS messages.
Emails
- Blog posts — email when you publish a blog/news post.
- Bible readings — Bible readings emails.
- Prayer requests — prayer request emails.
If you don’t currently have the Bible readings or prayer requests content types set up, the page notes that next to the relevant option.
Push notifications
If you have the app (premium), you’ll also see push notification options for Blog posts, Bible readings and Prayer requests — controlling whether the whole church receives app push notifications for each.
Saving
When you click Save, the changes are applied across everyone at once and you’ll see a confirmation summarising what was set — for example “Posts – everyone”, “SMS – no-one” — so you can see exactly what each category was changed to.
Because it’s all-or-nothing and overrides personal choices, the safest way to use this page is deliberately: decide the church-wide baseline you want, set it here once, and then use the individual tools to handle exceptions afterwards.
A note on consent
Opting everyone into a communication overrides the choices people have made, so use “Everyone” thoughtfully and only where you’re confident it’s appropriate and consented. For the wider picture on handling people’s data and consent, see GDPR.
