Podcast Settings configures the RSS feed that podcast directories use to list and update your church’s sermon podcast. Every field here feeds directly into the XML that Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Amazon Music read — incomplete or incorrectly formatted settings can cause submissions to fail or episodes to display incorrectly.

Go to Church Admin → Media → Podcast settings.

Your podcast RSS feed URL

At the top of the page, after saving, your podcast RSS feed URL is shown. This is the URL you submit to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Amazon Music. It looks like:

https://yourchurch.org/wp-content/uploads/sermons/podcast.xml

Right-click the link and choose Copy Link Address to copy it. Before submitting to any directory, paste the URL into your browser to confirm it displays XML data without errors. If it shows a blank page or error, check that at least one sermon has an audio file attached and that the settings below are saved.

Podcast details

Podcast title

The name of your podcast as it appears in podcast directories — for example St Andrew’s Church Sermons or Gateway Church Teaching. This is what people see when they search for your podcast.

Podcast description

A description of your podcast shown in directories when people view your podcast page. Describe what your church is about, what kind of teaching people can expect, and who it is for. Keep it clear and welcoming — this is often the first thing a potential new listener reads about your church.

Contact email

An email address included in the podcast feed for directory purposes. Amazon Music sends a verification email to this address during submission — make sure it is a real address you can access. Apple and Spotify also use this for any technical contact about the feed.

Website URL

Your church website address. Included in the feed so podcast directories can link back to your site.

Language

The language of your podcast content — for example en-gb for British English or en-us for American English. Podcast directories use this to categorise your podcast correctly and to surface it to listeners in the right region.

Category

The iTunes podcast category that best describes your content. Most church sermon podcasts fit under Religion & Spirituality → Christianity. Choosing the right category helps people find your podcast when browsing directories by topic.

Explicit content

Set to No for church sermons. Marking content as explicit affects its visibility in some podcast directories and may prevent it appearing in searches with safe filters enabled.

Podcast artwork

Podcast image

The artwork shown in podcast directories alongside your podcast title. Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Amazon all require the image to meet strict specifications — an image that doesn’t meet them will cause submission to fail silently:

  • Square — exactly equal width and height
  • Minimum 1400 x 1400 pixels — Apple recommends 3000 x 3000 for best quality across all devices
  • JPG or PNG format
  • RGB colour space — not CMYK
  • Under 512KB file size

Select the image from the WordPress Media Library. If you don’t have suitable artwork yet, a simple square design with your church name and logo created in Canva works well and can be exported at the correct size.

Podcast directory links

Once your podcast has been approved by each directory, paste the public link to your podcast in the corresponding field. These links appear on your public sermon page as clickable subscription badges so visitors can subscribe directly from your website.

iTunes link

The Apple Podcasts link to your podcast. Find this by searching for your podcast in the Apple Podcasts app, clicking the three dots, and choosing Copy Link.

Spotify Show Link

The Spotify link to your podcast. Find this in Spotify by right-clicking your podcast and choosing Share → Copy Show Link.

Amazon Music link

The Amazon Music link to your podcast. Amazon emails this to you once your submission has been approved.

Sermon page link

The URL of the page on your website that displays your sermons — set in Church Admin → Media → Set sermon page. The podcast feed uses this as the link back to your sermon archive. See Set sermon page.

Saving

Click Save podcast settings. The podcast XML feed is regenerated immediately. If you have already submitted to a directory, the updated details will be picked up the next time the directory refreshes your feed — usually within 24 hours. If you need to force an immediate update, use Church Admin → Media → Refresh podcast feed. See Refresh podcast feed.
