SMTP Confusion

I’ve been trying to debug mail for a while now and finally got a chance to look a little more closely. Here’s a couple issues I wanted to report.

First, it looks like whatever email settings I have for Church Admin also override the way WordPress email gets sent. I have a couple other plugins that send email, and to my surprise their email was affected by the Church Admin settings. I assume this is a feature, but I couldn’t find any mention of it in the documentation or in the admin configuration for email. It would be lovely if this behavior were made explicit. Ideally, this would be an option in the configuration, e.g. a checkbox “Send all site emails using this method” or something to that effect, like other plugins do.

Second, trying to switch between SMTP mail and PHP mail, Church Admin was still using the SMTP sending method even when I selected the “Send using native WordPress email functions” radio option. I had to delete the SMTP settings before the plugin would actually go back to the native (PHP) email.
