ParticipantThe syncing with MailChimp is still giving me problems, and it’s getting frustrating.
A subscriber was “cleaned” from bounced emails, so I put in her new email address and thought that would fix it. It didn’t. After searching, the only thing I could figure to do was to delete her altogether from MailChimp. I then did a new sync from the plugin, and it still wouldn’t add her back!
So I had to add her directly to MailChimp. That was a chore too. Trying to add her as a new subscriber didn’t work, because the new email address was tied to a contact that had been “cleaned,” even though it was the old address that caused the problem! I had to create a fake email address to add her as a new subscriber, then go back and edit to put in the right email address.
It looks like I’m going to have to make all changes twice, both in the plug-in and in MailChimp. My concern is those who make changes to their info themselves that I don’t know about.
Thanks for any insight.

KeymasterIt’s a Anti-spam thing – the API for sync can’t subscribed people who have unsubscribed, been cleaned or deleted. They have to resubscribe themselves and do the confirmation thing.
Everything on MailChimp is tied to the email address as that is unique to a person.
Let’s imagine you have John Smith with john@thesmiths.com
If John Smith changes his email address on the plugin to john@thesmiths.org, the sync will create a new MailChimp subscriber and leave the old one on there. You may have a couple of John Smiths in the church so that makes sense.Maybe the solution is to do a sync of just a person when they are added or edited that way we know we are dealing with the right John Smith – I’ll give it some thought.
I definitely won’t do deleting in the sync as it is permanent and only the email address holder can resubscribe, which is a pain if mistakes are made,
How it lets you edit the email address and change it to a previously got rid of address beats me! -
