I’m looking for a little reassurance before I use the feature again.
When I hit send on the very first bulk-email I did with churchadmin, that page went into “wait for me” mode for a while, and I was on my way out the door. When I came back a few hours later, it said the message had been sent, but unfortunately, it sent five copies of the same email to all 100 people on the mailing list. (not a great start). I had selected recipients by Member Type. I’m pretty sure I did not hit SEND five times, even though the page was unresponsive. Number of recipients per hour was set to 50.
I’ve tried it since then by sending emails to small groups (five emails) and it’s worked fine. No long wait time, no multiple emails.
I’m wondering if other people had the problem of multiple emails? Is it some weirdness of my host? Email program?
My main question is: do you think it likely that I can I send out another bulk email without bombarding people with extra copies?

Do you have the same email address stored for individual people within in a household?
I’ve just checked the code and it may need adjusting to only grab “distinct” email which is database speak for only grab an email address once – the only problem is that it was send it addressed to the first named person with that email address19th May 2015 at 6:32 am #3476JaneenMemberThe database has one couple in the same household who share the same email address, nine people without any email address, and everyone else has a unique email address. Sending it twice to one household is not optimum, true, but sending it five times to every household makes recipients cranky.

So I can work on what’s wrong how have you set up sending email
Immediately? Using wp-cron? or Cron?I’ll try to work out what happened – Ive never had problems with multiple sends though
Please could you email your DB backup to clients at themoyles.co.uk and I can see if it’s your setup (I won’t send anything with it!!!)We swapped to http://www.mailchimp.com to send email as it is more reliable. We are hosted on a shared server and sometimes our IP was getting spamlisted because of other users on the same server. Mailchimp are pretty good at not being blocked and offer a free service to smaller lists like most churches.
23rd May 2015 at 1:17 am #3485JaneenMemberI sent the database the other day. I know you’re busy, so I’m not trying to push for a response, but I was wondering if it arrived?
25th May 2015 at 11:07 pm #3486Andy MoyleKeymasterYes it did! I’ve emailed you separately. There’s no issue with your database
