We’re currently using a different church management plugin for WordPress, but I’m intrigued by this one’s feature set. So here’s a few questions:

Is it possible to import the existing set of sermons via RSS (podcast) into the new plug-in’s format? Where can I find more detailed examples of the sermon display page, especially thinking about filtering?

Is there a way to import our membership database? How secure is that database?

    Hi there.

    1) I’ve not thought of an RSS migration for sermons – that’s a great idea and will work on it for a coming update. Have a look at my site to see the sermon display in action – http://www.thegatewaychurch.info/sermons
    2) Yes if you have it in CSV format.
Security – it’s as secure as WordPress can make it and how you use it – i did a blog post on protecting from a hack a while back http://www.themoyles.co.uk/2013/02/so-your-wordpress-site-has-been-hacked/
Make sure shortcode for address list is on a password protected page or login only.

Hi Andy – how does one import ( I guess the documentation covers all that), and how “prepared” must the CSI file be before import?
    Cheers

It just needs to be a CSV file not Excel (.xls), with the first row making up the headers
You upload and are then offered a form to map your columns with what the plugin is interested in…
First name, last name, gender, date of birth, email, cellphone, landline, address (as one column or street address, city, state/county, zip/post code), small group, member type
You don’t need to supply all the columns, but the more you do the more powerful the import is!
The plugin will sort people into households by address and the first named at an address is assumed to be the head of household.
