Hi Andy. Thanks for a really fantastic plugin! I see much potential in it for our local assembly.

I have 3 queries (short answers welcome):

    • I am battling to log into the iOS app (“Our Church”, right?). The username and password would be the same as the plugin? I’m having no joy… am I the problem? (Such a dumb question methinks!). Sorry.

    • And, is there any way to send sms’s through my own service provider here in South Africa (Vodacom)? Or even better, some way to connect to Whatsapp perhaps?

    • Lastly, our site is using Divi. I did see a post from you guaging interest for developing something for it. Would this fact affect the plugin for me at the moment though? I assume only if I am trying to incorporate it on our site? (Not planning to at present).
    Many thanks
    Glenn

    Hi Glenn,
    Thanks for upgrading!

    1) You need a directory entry that is connected to your login for the app.
    2) Possibly if they have an API – but there is a difference between mobile service providers like Vodafone, AT&T etc and sms gateway providers. The latter allow websites to send SMS over the mobile network through a gateway. Twilio is a US firm with global reach. If Vodacom are a gateway and they offer an API I may be able to work it. Just googled and it looks like Vodacom are SA’s Vodafone and they do offer an API.
WhatApp messaging API turns out to be not at all easy to use!
    3) I’ve not integrated with DIVI as it’s expensive to buy (and my wife’s school uses it and I hated it!) If they allow shortcodes, then you can use Church Admin features easily.

    Hi Andy

I have gone through your pdf manual, and made much progress with the setup. Thank you.
I am still battling with a few things:

    1. I cannot seem to get the directory to load in my app. Under Home, I appear to have successfully loaded a logo which shows up, indicating I’m logged in. Yesterday I successfully got a login page which took me to my own family entry, to view/edit etc, but not today, nor is it showing me the full directory? Does the app need to read from what is set up on our website? I haven’t got to any of that yet, so what I’m seeing may well be normal… Just checking. But should I not be able to see the full directory, as admin (in the app)? It is all set up in the plugin, under People. I’m not sure if I’m missing something, or just not fully understanding the app yet. Please advise.

    2. I made a colleague a user, to test out, but he did not receive an email with username or password. I have made basic edits and set that up under Comms. After downloading the app, he added his username that the plugin generated (I had to supply), and then he clicked on ‘forgot password’. And after resetting it, he was able to log in. My query: Why might he not have received the mail? Is it because he is alreeady in the directory? Still, no password was supplied…
    3. When we’re both in the app, we are seeing the same thing, namely just a Home screen with my simple logo, and 4 tabs: My Availablility, Home, Groups, and SMS replies, (only I see the last one, being the admin, I presume). Correct? I guess I’m back to the Directory query, above… I thought I should see it there and others would see the address list?

Ministries and automated rota/schedule emails appear to be set up correctly and working! Small victories!

    Thanks again
    Glenn

Lastly for today, is this correct or should I have permissions?

For some reason the emails notifying me didn’t come through!
Best thing to do is to make the glennandrews user a site admin in WordPress user settings. Then your household login has all the privileges to get everything else set up.

There is indeed a not logged in view of the app – ie they can’t see any personal data.
Then once logged in (and the user needs to be connected to a directory entry), they get more. In the normal run of things as you add people to the directory and create users that tieing together is automatic. It’s just an issue for people who already had logins who need to connect to a directory entry.

For main plugin functions it is best to use the app generated menu items for them – eg the rota, rather than creating an app content page and adding a shortcode. Reason is the technology under the hood is slightly different.

Shortcodes have web links to do tasks, which when clicked would take the user to a web browser outside the app, where they would need to login and thats annoying. App generated content uses javascript to internally link instead, keeping people in the app with a persistent login. Also stops what you see in that screenshot where you have two login forms on a page.

If you login to the website and head to Church Admin, then App, then menu, you can see all the app generated menu items. Check and uncheck what you want. You can also show items to non-logged in users and theyw ill get a login form.
