Create User Account error

I was testing something. As admin, I created an account with just Names and Email address, then sent the GDPR email to all unconfirmed users (i.e. only that new account – to one of my email addresses). When I received that email, I clicked the confirm button and all seemed well – the admin account received a notification of a new household confirming…

I clicked the link in that notification email and logged in as admin, taking me to the approval page. I checked the account over and clicked the “create user” button (as I have done many times before).

But this time, the new username created was the ADMIN username (already in use). The email confirming the account had been approved contained a blank after the username prompt. And no new WordPress user has been created (perhaps understandably).

Obviously, I don’t want this to happen with a real user account…
